Unger fired her first career 700 series (726) with games of 248, 225 and 253 in her Monday night Saginaw Independents league at State Lanes. It’s the second time in her bowling career that she’s been named Bowler of the Week. Unger continues to push her average, which now sits in the 193-194 range, to career-best heights. “I just found a line and it just never seemed to change for me,” she said. “That’s what I wanted, I wanted a 700. Riffelmacher has been bowling for the better part of five decades and has had great series (his best being 747) and perfect games, but was always edged out when it came to getting the Bowler of the Week Award. He's now got that off his list as well as he used games of 237, 279 and 199 to win the award. He was 199 pins over his average during his Friday league at State Lanes.
“Everything comes late, I guess,” Riffelmacher said. “I didn’t get my first 300 probably until I was 40 days from hitting age 62. It was an honor to get it. I’ve had good series, but someone always outdid me. My average dropped, so I’m just lucky I got it.”
